Keeping the Math Simple: Beehiiv’s Earnings Calculator

I’ve worked on ROI calculators before, and I’ll admit they often have a tendency to get overly complicated. That’s why I love this example from Beehiiv, a fast-growing favourite in the newsletter software space. They do three things with this calculator that I really like: 1) They keep it simple You only need to input two data points to see what your ROI could be on their platform. I know it doesn’t factor in your costs, but that math is pretty simple. Because they keep it simple, this calculator can live on their homepage without taking up too much real estate. 2) It acts as a great positioning tool One of their differentiators against their biggest direct competitor (Substack) is price. They not only calculate your earnings, but show you how much more you’d earn on their platform vs Substack. They also make it clear in the intro copy. 3) They provide a clear CTA This calculator is clearly focused on converting users from Substack to Beehiiv. Instead of tip toeing around that with a generic CTA, they get straight to the point and ask you to “Make the switch” See it for yourself
